This idea of landscape EIA is likely to be part of any review of the EPBC Act should Labor win the upcoming Federal election.
At the EIANZ 2018 National Conference I presented a paper titled “Moving beyond the rationality of project EIA – landscape scale and holistic EIA” where I suggested that EIA had become insensitive to Australia’s unique landscape, largely because EIA and land use planning had its roots in other countries and other times, notable the USA and Europe. I suggested that a uniquely Australia EIA should be based on landscape, including the notion of ‘Country’ as held by our First Nations people.
I'd like to move the idea forward, start a discussion about it and to fully developed idea in a collective way.
I have written a first draft of a formal paper, and you are welcome to download and provide any advice, comment and input.
NOTE: anyone contributing to the idea/paper will be acknowledged as a co-author.
Looking forward to any feedback.
